'23 Spring Classes: About

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

CRAWFISH

Ages: Walking- 2 years old

45 minutes/ Crawfish will begin to explore their balance, flexibility and strength on smaller scale equipment in the Pre-K room. With the help of a trusted adult and lots of engaging stations, gymnasts will develop early physical and cognitive skills. A parent or guardian 15 years or older is required to attend with the gymnast to help keep them engaged, listening, and learning. We recommend 1 gymnast per 1 adult. No more than 2 gymnasts will be allowed with 1 adult. Students must be able to walk without assistance to begin in this class.

TADPOLE

Ages: 3-4 years old

45 minutes/ Tadpoles will use the smaller scale equipment in our Pre-K room to learn the basic fundamentals of gymnastics. They will work on vault, bars, beam, floor, and our Tumbl Trak developing their knowledge of shaping and how it helps us learn to perform bigger skills like rolls, handstands, jumps, pullovers, and cartwheels. Students will also learn how to focus, learn, and work in a class setting. Gymnasts must be exactly 3 years old to join this class and fully potty trained. This is the first class gymnasts may participate in without an adult. If a gymnast is not able to complete the class without parental assistance, they will need to move to a Crawfish class or private lesson.

MINNOW

Age: 5 years old

45 minutes/ Minnows will follow a similar curriculum to Tadpoles with shaping fundamentals and how to apply them to skills such as rolls, jumps, and basic acro skills. Since this age group is preparing to transition into a Main Gym class within the next full year, their class will venture into the Main Gym for an event or stations every class to better prepare them to make the switch. The majority of their class will be in the Pre-K room working on vault, bars beam, and floor. Minnows will also learn more about the importance of strength and flexibility as they begin working on their next level skills such as into to bridges, kickovers, cartwheels, and bar casts.

GUPPY

Ages: 6-7 years old

55 minutes/ Students joining the Guppy class may register one month prior to their 6th birthday. The Guppy class is the youngest class in our gymnastics program to practice solely in the Main Gym on vault, bars, beam, floor, and Tumbl Trak. This class focuses on proper technique and progression for skills such as rolls, cartwheels, roundoffs, handstands, kickovers, pullovers, backhipcircles, flatback vaults, leaps, and turns. Intro to connections of acro skills will be taught as students progress.

PIRANHA

Ages: 8-14 years old

55 minutes/ Piranhas classes follow the same structure and curriculum as the Guppy class. The two are divided by age for the gymnast’s overall enjoyment and benefit of the class. However, we do offer several class times where they are combined so friends and siblings don’t have to separate if they are of different age groups and the one month grace period applies when moving into Piranhas. The coaches can accommodate beginner and intermediate levels. advanced gymnasts will likely be invited to a different program. Students enrolling in Piranhas will work drills and stations on vault, bars, beam, and floor to learn proper technique and profession for skills. Intro to connections and backhandsprings may be taught at this level depending on progression and form.

PRETEAM

Ages: 4+

2.5 hours/ Invite only/ our Preteam program is designed for advanced gymnasts and gymnasts who are pursuing joining our competition team. Students may receive a request from their gymnastics instructor or May request a 30 minute tryout to test out their skills. Students in tumbling classes only are not eligible for coach invite, but are welcome to request a tryout where they will perform skills on all four events. This class meets in the Main Gym and will often work with Team on conditioning and events.

TINY TUMBLING

Ages: 3-5

BEG. & ADV. TUMBLING

Ages: 6+

45 minutes/ Tiny Tumblers will work in the Pre-K room towards basic acro skills such as handstands, rolls, cartwheels and roundoffs. They will spend a decent amount of time on the Tumbl Trak as well. There are acro skills requiring students bending their back that will not be worked with students under 5 for safety.

55 minutes/ Beginner Tumbling students will work in the Main Gym towards the same basic acros as above. Once they have accomplished some or most of those skills, they will begin learning how to connect the skills together or combine them to make tumbling passes. Students will spend approximately 25% of the class doing strength, flexibility and conditioning as necessary to perform certain higher level acro skills.

55 minutes/ Advanced Tumbling students is open to all ages. Student must have a standing backhandspring without a spot or be invited by their current coach or through a 30 minute tryout. An advanced tumbling class will only be added to the schedule upon inquiry or invite of 2+ students. If you have a group interested in forming a class, let us know!
